A sales video is not a lead magnet.
If you think it is, allow me to introduce you to what a lead magnet actually is:
A lead magnet is an incentive that marketers offer to potential buyers in exchange for their email address or other contact information.
Lead magnets are usually digital, downloadable content, such as a free PDF checklist, report, eBook, whitepaper, video, etc.
If using video as a lead magnet – you get the email address and then give access to the video. Usually, the video is a quality sampling of the product or service being sold.
Why Must I Say This?
A recent chat that is similar to many this year:
Them: I need 7 emails please
Me: That's great! What is your lead magnet and who is your target market?
Them: I am using the video as a lead magnet. Here is the URL
Me: That is a sales page that asks for your email address as you place an order. What did you offer to get their email address in the first place?
Them: I didn't offer anything. I'm sending them to the video.
Me: How did you get the email addresses?
Them: From (now you pick one – solo ad, social media ad).
Me: Okay, so how are you going to get the emails I write to them?
Me. Did you not understand my question?
Them: No. I just want you to write the emails.
There is a reason 1000 people get into an online business of some sort and only 1% make a lot of money doing it.
The 1% actually know what they're doing.
The 99% say they're learning from the 1%, but really what they're doing is –
- trying to take a shortcut
- doing it “their” way
- don't believe that what the 1% say works actually works.
I've been in marketing in some capacity for over 30 years.
